Dr. Miner's Weekly Wellness Wisdom
This past weekend I caught a story on CBS about a product called Sharklet that is designed to cover surfaces to prevent bacterial contamination. This stuff is designed to mimic the pattern of the skin of a shark, after some astute marine biologists realized that bacteria does not grow on shark skin. What I found fascinating is in the story they talked about a problem with allopathic medicine is that everything is focused on killing germs.
This approach has created some enormous problems. 99% of the time this may work, but what we are left with then is that 1% of germs that does not die from our chemicals and drugs. This 1% then turns into some wickedly dangerous drug resistant bacteria. In fact more people die each year in the United States from the deadly bacteria mersa than from HIV. Mersa is a deadly bacteria that was essentially made by mans use of antibiotics and antibacterial products.
In Chiropractic what we call this shark skin thing is innate. God did not design a shark with some amazing antibiotic. He designed sharks with a certain pattern that inhibits bacterial growth. How simple, and how eloquent!
You also have this innate intelligence inside of you. You too are also designed with an immune system that works just as effectively to kill any germ or virus IF you are healthy. Think about it this way...if you get diarrhea because you ate bad food, or got a stomach virus, your body's wisdom attempts to remove the bug by causing you to vomit or have diarrhea. How absurd is it to work against the intelligence of your body by taking a medication like immodium? Yes, it works, it stops diarrhea. BUT, now that bug is trapped inside of you. Medication works against the innate intelligence of the human body.
You are better off, in my opinion and clinical experience, to stay hydrated, and let your body go to work to remove the bug. It may not be a fun time, but you will be healthier and usually heal faster if you let your body's innate intelligence go to work. You are also wise to get adjusted regularly because adjustments affect your nervous system which is what the innate intelligence in your body flows over.
Love and Health,
